Vidiprinter+
Privacy Policy
Effective 23 October 2026 · Updated 1 November 2026 (alerts)
In short
- Vidiprinter+ has no user accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
- Your settings (the look, the competitions you follow, your clubs) stay on your iPhone. The one exception is alerts: if you turn them on, the app sends our server the clubs, competitions and events you want alerts for, and a push address Apple gives the app, so we can send them.
- Your subscription is handled by Apple. We never see your payment details, your name or your Apple Account. Our server keeps a transaction identifier so it knows you're subscribed.
- The app shows publicly reported match events about professional players and coaches. Section 3 explains what we hold about them and how they can object.
1. Who we are
Vidiprinter+ is developed by Mike McCarthy ("we", "us", "our"), based in Sheffield, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
Contact us about privacy at support@commentator.pro.
2. Information we collect about you
Subscription and purchase information. Vidiprinter+ is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store, and Apple takes your payment. When you subscribe, restore a purchase or open the app, it sends our server the signed record of your purchase that Apple gives it. The server checks Apple's signature and keeps a transaction identifier, the plan (monthly or annual), its status and expiry date, and which of our apps it was bought in. It gives the app a session key, kept in your iPhone's Keychain, which the app sends with each request so the server can check you're subscribed. Apple also tells our server when your subscription renews, lapses or is refunded. We don't receive your name, email address or Apple Account.
Using the app. When the app fetches the feed, fixtures or a table, it asks our server for a day and a set of competitions, with the session key. Our server limits how often each subscription and each internet address can make requests, to protect the service. It keeps those counts in memory only, and drops them within minutes. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which can include internet addresses, for a short period. We use them only to keep the service running and to fix faults.
Alerts (push notifications). Alerts are off until you allow notifications. When they're on, the app sends our server:
- the push token Apple gives the app on your iPhone, a random address for sending it notifications;
- the clubs and competitions you want alerts for, and which events (goals, results, red cards, missed penalties);
- whether the app is a test build.
The server keeps these with your subscription's transaction identifier, so only subscribers get alerts, and notes when the app last sent them. We use them only to send the alerts you've asked for. The server sends each alert through Apple's push notification service, which needs the push token to deliver it.
To stop alerts, turn them off in Settings → Notifications in the app, which deletes your phone's record on our server. You can also turn notifications off for Vidiprinter+ in your iPhone's Settings, or delete the app.
Settings on your iPhone. Your chosen look, light or dark setting, the competitions and clubs you follow, and how names are shown are stored on your iPhone. They aren't sent to us, apart from the alert choices above.
Diagnostics. We don't run analytics or crash reporting of our own. If you share diagnostics with Apple in your iPhone's settings, Apple may collect crash logs for the app under its own privacy policy. We only see them if Apple passes them on to developers or you send them to us.
3. Information about players and coaches
Vidiprinter+ reports football matches as they happen, so it shows information about professional footballers and coaches. This is personal data about them, and this section is for them as much as for our users.
What we hold. Names, nationality, clubs, and match events and statistics: goals, assists, cards, penalties, line-ups, and records built from past results, such as a player's goals for a club or a run of scoring games. We don't hold contact details, and we don't use injury, health or any other special category data.
Where it comes from. This information is already public. We get it from Sportmonks, a licensed football-data provider.
How we use it. Our server keeps the day's feed and a store of past results it uses to write the short statistical lines shown under goals and results.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: reporting professional football matches accurately as they happen. The data relates to people's public professional roles and is limited to what match reporting needs.
If you're a player or coach, you have the rights set out in section 9, including the right to object. Contact us at support@commentator.pro. If your information is wrong at its source, we'll also ask Sportmonks to correct it.
4. What we don't collect
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any data for advertising or tracking. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising tools, and we don't sell or share personal data for marketing.
5. How we use information, and our lawful basis
UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for each way we use personal data. Ours are:
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Confirm your subscription before showing the feed, fixtures and tables | Contract: we need it to provide the subscription you bought. |
| Send the alerts you've turned on, to the clubs, competitions and events you chose | Contract: alerts are part of the subscription, sent only when you ask for them. |
| Limit request rates and keep server logs | Legitimate interests: keeping the service working and secure for everyone. |
| Answer your emails and diagnose problems you report | Legitimate interests: helping you and keeping the app working. |
| Keep financial and tax records | Legal obligation. |
| Report match events about players and coaches (section 3) | Legitimate interests: accurate reporting of professional football. |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we've weighed our interests against yours, and you can object at any time (section 9). We don't make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on anyone, and we don't profile users.
6. Who we share information with
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Apple Inc. | Takes your subscription payment and gives our server the signed purchase records and notifications it uses to check your subscription. Delivers alerts to your iPhone through its push notification service, using the push token. Governed by Apple's privacy policy. |
| Render | Hosts our server and its database, which holds subscription records, alert choices and push tokens, and football data. |
| Sportmonks | Supplies the match data. Our server fetches each day's matches for everyone at once, so Sportmonks receives nothing about you. |
We don't share information with anyone else, and we never sell personal data.
7. International transfers
Our server is hosted by Render in Oregon, USA. This is a restricted transfer under UK data protection law, and it's safeguarded by Render's Data Processing Addendum, which incorporates the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Sportmonks is based in the Netherlands, within the European Economic Area. It receives no information about our users.
8. How long we keep information
Subscription records. We keep the record while your subscription is active. After it ends, we keep it so a renewal, refund or resubscription can be matched to it. It can't identify you without Apple's records. Ask us and we'll delete it.
Alert choices and push tokens are kept while alerts are on. They're deleted when you turn alerts off, when Apple tells us the push token no longer works (for example, after you delete the app), or after 60 days without the app being opened.
Request counts are kept in memory only, for a few minutes at most. Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider, then deleted.
Financial records are kept for as long as UK tax law requires.
Support emails are kept for as long as we need them to help you, and for up to two years afterwards in case the same problem comes up again.
Your settings stay on your iPhone until you change them or delete the app.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it (access);
- ask us to correct inaccurate data (rectification);
- ask us to delete data we hold about you (erasure);
- ask us to limit how we use your data (restriction);
- object to any use based on legitimate interests, including the player and coach information in section 3 (objection);
- receive data you gave us in a commonly used, machine-readable format, or have it sent to another provider (portability);
- not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you. We don't make any.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@commentator.pro. We'll reply within one month, and there's no charge. We may need to confirm who you are first. Your subscription is identified by its transaction ID, which you can find in your purchase receipt from Apple.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at any time.
10. Children's privacy
Vidiprinter+ is a football results service for a general audience and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13, and the app doesn't ask for any.
11. Security
All communication between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). The session key is kept in the iPhone's Keychain and expires after a week, and our server checks every purchase record's signature with Apple rather than trusting the app alone. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when the app or the law changes, and change the date above when we do. If a change affects how we use your personal data in a significant way, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
